No more wire shelves ever! For this trick you will need:
-plywood sheets
-1x3 boards (for the front of your shelf- make sure this measurement is right for your wire shelves)
-stain (we used Minwax Dark Walnut) or paint
-nail gun
-circle saw
-miter saw
First, measure your shelves length and depth and find your square footage of the area you hope to cover. Next, you will decide how many plywood sheets you will need based on your measurements. The plywood sheets come in 8 foot sheets so don't be like Alli and forget that you will need your husband's truck to get them home.
Then, you will trace out your shelf on your plywood sheet and cut the top of your shelf using your circle saw. It does help if you have someone holding the other piece. Lowe's or Home Depot might cut the wood for you, but we already owned these tools so we did it at home.
Finally, you will use a miter saw to cut the 1x3 boards to be the front piece. At this point you can paint or stain your shelf pieces or you can wait to do that at the end. Lastly, use your nail gun to nail the two pieces together. Make sure the top of the plywood sheet is flush with the 1x3 and the boards should come together in a L shape.
The shelf cover should lay flat on top of your wire shelf and voila you have pretty new shelves to look at!
